The Char Dham Yatra comprises of a set of four Hindu pilgrimage sites that represent four different yugas namely – Badrinath (Satya Yuga), Dwarka (Dvapara Yuga), Puri (Kali Yuga) and Rameshwaram (Treta Yuga).

1. Badrinath

The pilgrimage starts in Yamunotri, where followers hike from Janki Chatti to the Goddess Yamuna temple, which is around 6 miles away. The pilgrims bathe in the sacred waters of the Ganga River in Gangotri, their next destination. Devotees proceed from Gangotri to Kedarnath, which can be reached by foot or by helicopter. You will be enthralled with the stunning vistas of Kedarnath Temple, which is nestled among snow-capped mountains. The trip comes to a conclusion at Badrinath, the home of Lord Vishnu in his Badrinarayan incarnation. While returning from Badrinath, pilgrims can stop at adjacent sites like Vasudhara Falls and Mana Village.

2. Puri

The city of Puri, located in the eastern part of India, is renowned as the sacred land of Lord Jagannath. It holds great importance as a place of worship and is famous for hosting the annual Rath Yatra event, which takes place from Jagannath Temple to Shri Gundicha Temple. Puri is not only a significant spiritual destination but also a popular tourist spot that has many attractions to offer such as Puri Beach. The best time to visit Puri and enjoy its pleasant weather is between October and February.

3. Rameshwaram

Located at the southernmost point of India, Rameshwaram is a significant pilgrimage site for both Shaivites and Vaishnavites. It is the only Dham where Lord Shiva is believed to reside and is considered to be his hallowed abode. Often referred to as the Varanasi of the South, Rameshwaram boasts of several temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman and the Rameshwaram temple, which is the primary attraction here. The pilgrimage season is from October to April, and the region is renowned for its temple architecture, thanks to its mild climate.

4. Dwarka

The magnificent Dwarkadheesh temple, the abode of Lord Krishna is located in the enchanting city of Dwarka. An annual pilgrimage during Janmashtami attracts a plethora of devotees to this divine site. The trip also includes visits to breathtaking beaches and holy lakes. Experience the beauty of the winter season, from October to March, which marks the busiest time for pilgrimages, owing to the favorable weather conditions.

The main goal of the pilgrimage to these four sacred shrines is to find oneself and seek comfort in the divine presence. Each temple has its own unique history, legends, and architectural designs, which add to the charm of the journey.
