Vladimir Putin has been quarantined in his bunker amid reports of a huge flu outbreak affecting Kremlin officials. The flu is believed to have harmed President Putin’s crew, citing health and security concerns. This month, Putin cancelled his annual set-piece press conference for the first time in ten years. Though it hasn’t been ruled out, his speech to parliament may not go on as planned because of the startling report that several of his close associates are sick with the flu.
According to the news outlet Novaya Gazeta Europe, many presidential officials in the Kremlin were sick with the flu. Putin cancelled his traditional year-end news conference for the first time in ten years, just two days prior to the publication of the report. The annual press conference won’t be held, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who announced this on Monday. But he didn’t explain why he made the change. Besides the flu that has spread through the city, many people think it was caused by recent failures in Ukraine. Putin is probably going to rescind his speech to the parliamentary upper house. The president will spend the holiday season in a bunker east of the Ural Mountains with his family.
A report claims that despite the president’s directive to increase security at key locations, Vladimir Putin’s already onerous security measures have actually increased. Putin has started to spend more time in locations resembling bunkers. And as opposed to the mansion in Sochi, as originally intended, the president and his loved ones will instead [enjoy] the New Year in a bunker hidden beyond the Ural Mountains.
