On Sunday i.e 1st Jan 2022, Tesla announced that it delivered almost one million electric cars (EVs) worldwide in 2021, surpassing its goal of boosting deliveries by 50 percent. Last year, Tesla delivered 936,000 electric vehicles, approximately double its number in 2020. As per reports, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 were amongst the most popular electric vehicles from the American firm, with 911,208 units delivered in total. Following that, 24,964 Model X and Model S units were sold. All these are Tesla’s premium models, which cost roughly $100,000. In addition, Tesla delivered 308,600 units in the fourth quarter, accounting for most of the sales boost.
This statement led the automaker into the highly select club of companies worth over $1 trillion on the stock market. Tesla, however, sees itself under scrutiny from the NHTSA auto regulator, which is questioning its autopilot system for safety reasons. The automaker has also decided to update its software to control drivers from playing video games on the car’s system. At the same time, the vehicle is in motion, following a government safety investigation.
