Sterlite Technologies teams up with Facebook Connectivity for 4G, 5G radio products

As part of the Evenstar programme, Sterlite Technologies has announced a cooperation with Facebook Connectivity to design and develop 4G and 5G radio devices to enable operators around the world expedite the commercial deployment of Open RAN and enhance 5G readiness.

Over the access side of the network, STL has been creating open, disaggregated, virtualized, and programmable solutions for the last few years. STL has released a portfolio of open networking technologies, including Garuda (indoor small cells), 5G multi-band macro radios, and Wi-Fi6 carrier-grade access solutions for 5G wireless. These services are being tested with top-tier telecoms in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia Pacific.

Facebook Connectivity and worldwide industry partners have collaborated on the Evenstar programme to promote the adoption of Open RAN technologies. STL will develop two advanced, high-power macro radio devices as a result of our partnership. The first is an O-RAN-compliant radio that offers increased capacity for dense installations.

STL will also build an O-RAN compatible 4G+5G Dual Technology Radio that supports both technologies separately or simultaneously as part of this agreement. Over the next year, these 3GPP and O-RAN compatible radio solutions will be produced, allowing telecom operators throughout the world to scale up commercial deployments of open networking infrastructure.

As part of the Evenstar programme to help operators speed commercial deployment of ‘Open RAN’ and enhance 5G readiness, Sterlite Technologies Ltd. worked with Facebook Connectivity to design and build 4G and 5G radio equipment.

Sterlite Technologies has now released a portfolio of open networking devices, including Garuda (indoor small cells), 5G multi-band macro radios, and Wi-Fi6 carrier-grade access solutions for 5G wireless. Top-tier telecom corporations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia Pacific are testing the services.

Open RAN architecture, also known as open radio access network architecture, is a phrase used in the industry to describe the interoperability and standardisation of radio access network parts, such as devices and software from different manufacturers.

Sterlite will manufacture two high-power radio devices as part of this partnership. To begin, it will develop an Open RAN-compliant radio that will increase capacity for dense installations. Second, Sterlite will create a 4G+5G dual-technology radio that is Open RAN compatible. This will aid in the support of both individual and concurrent network technologies.

Over the next year, Sterlite plans to develop and sell these items, according to the company. It will enable telcos to prepare their networks for 5G networks based on Open RAN once it is available. Sterlite had previously released a set of open networking devices. Garuda indoor small cells, 5G multi-band macro radios, and WiFi-6 carrier-grade access solutions are among the 5G wireless devices available. These products are currently being tested by telcos in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia Pacific.

“We are ecstatic to be a part of the Evenstar effort to create 3GPP and O-RAN-compliant radio devices…. We are allowing global telecom service providers to provide the potential of 5G technology to billions of people across the world at lower cost points by enabling an open networking architecture via projects like this,” said Chris Rice, CEO of STL’s Access Solutions Business.

STL previously announced a portfolio of open networking technologies, including Garuda indoor small cells, 5G multi-band macro radios, and WiFi-6 carrier-grade access solutions, all of which are now being tested with telcos in the US, UK, and APAC.
