Following a meeting of the organizing committee for planning and hosting the BRICS Games, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister for Tourism, Sport, Culture, and Communications, announced on June 5 that Russia intends to host approximately 5,000 participants from 97 nations. In his remarks, Dimitry stated that President Vladimir Putin is the one who authorized the commencement of the BRICS Games. The event is an important component of the country’s presidency plan in the BRICS association.

The sporting event is slated to begin in Kazan next week by Russia. Mikhail Degtyarev, the Russian minister of sports, stated that their goal is to guarantee that all 97 nations have the chance to participate without prejudice and political interference, as well as to establish fair and equal circumstances for all individuals and protect sporting cultures. They have put forth the BRICS Kazan Sports Charter with that in mind. The charter lays out the objectives, guiding principles, and strategies for sports cooperation among the BRICS nations. It also specifies how these objectives would be carried out and the requirements for hosting competitions, which will be overseen by the association’s chairperson.

Degtyarev mentioned that Kazhan is the sports capital of Russia and this is in terms of contribution to the development of physical culture and sports and in terms of the organized events. The BRICS sports ministers’ meeting is scheduled for June 22 and it will bring together representatives from China, UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, India, South Africa and Brazil. According to Russian Deputy Sports Minister Alexey Morozov, the BRICS Games are expected to have approximately 4,000 participants from other countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had instructed his government to submit plans on May 2023 for organizing and hosting the BRICS Games in Russia in 2024. The Russian Sports Ministry has developed the final sports program on behalf of the organizing committee, taking consideration of all the submitted applications. The event is set to feature 27 sports and will be hosted in Kazan from June 12 to 23. More than 50 nations, including Kazakhstan, Turkey, Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bahrain, Congo, and others, are registered to compete in the athletic event. It will have 380 sets of awards, which will be distributed into 29 disciplines at the event.
