The Indian Premier League Auction 2021 for the 14th season took place on Thursday, 18 February in Chennai. Registration for players ended on 4th February. More than 1000 cricketers registered from all around the world but 298 players were shortlisted for auction.
All the franchises bid strategically to get the best players to their team. Chris Morris arose to be the costliest purchase in IPL history, being in the team of Rajasthan Royals for ₹16.25 crore Virat Kohli remained the costliest player in the IPL and continued with Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 17 crores.
Arjun Tendulkar was bagged by Mumbai Indians for his reserve price of 20 Lakhs. Glenn Maxwell (Australian all-rounder player) attracted a bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore with a price of Rs. 14.25 crore. Harbhajan Singh moved to KKR.
Punjab Kings also made some big moves with a wallet of 53.20 crores. They bagged up Moises Henriques for Rs. 4.2 crore, Jhye Richardson for Rs.14 crore. They made some budget buys also, for example, number one positioned T20 batsman Dawid Malan Rs 1.50 crore.

New players that were added to the team were Nathan Coulter Nile for 5 crores, Adam Milne for 3.2 crores, Piyush Chawla for 2.4 crores, James Neesham for 50 lakh, Yudhvir Charak for 20 lakh, Marco Jansen for 20 lakh, Arjun Tendulkar for 20 lakhs.
2. Kolkata Knight Riders
New Players that were added to the team were, Shakib Al Hasan for 3.2 crores, Ben Cutting for 75 lakh, Karun Nair for 50 lakh, Pawan Negi for 50 lakh, Harbhajan Singh for 2 crores, Vaibhav Arora for 20 lakh, Sheldon Jackson for 20 lakh, Venkatesh Iyer for 20 lakh.
3. Punjab Kings
New Players that were added to the team were, Jhye Richardson for 14 crores, Shahrukh Khan for 5.25 crore, Moises Henriques for 4.2 crores, Dawid Malan for 1.5 crores, Riley Meredith 8 crores, Fabian Allen for 75 lakh, Saurabh Kumar for 20 lakh, Jalaj Saxena for 30 lakh, Utkarsh Singh for 20 lakh.
4. Delhi Capitals
New Players that were added to the team were, Tom Curran for 5.25 crore, M Siddharth for 20 lakh, Sam Billings for 2 crores, Umesh Yadav for 1 crore, Ripal Patel for 20 lakh, Vishnu Vinod for 20 lakh, Steven Smith for 2.2 crores, Lukman Meriwala for 20 lakh, M Siddharth for 20 lakh.
5. Sunrisers Hyderabad
New Players that were added to the team were, Kedar Jadhav for 2 crores, Mujeeb ur Rahman for 1.5 crores, J Suchith for 30 lakhs.
6. Chennai Super Kings
New Players that were added to the team were, K Gowtham for 9.25 crores, Moeen Ali for 7 crores, Cheteshwar Pujara for 50 lakh, K Bhagath Varma for 20 lakh, C Hari Nishaanth for 20 lakh, M Harisankar Reddy for 20 lakhs.
7. Rajasthan Royals
New Players that were added to the team were, Chris Morris for 16.25 crore, Shivam Dube for 4.4 crores, Chetan Sakariya for 1.2 crores, Mustafizur Rahman for 1 crore, Liam Livingstone for 75 lakh, Akash Singh for 20 lakh, KC Cariappa for 20 lakh, Kuldip Yadav for 20 lakhs.
8. Royal Challengers Bangalore
New Players that were added to the team were, Glenn Maxwell for 14.25 crore, Dan Christian for 4.8 crores, Sachin Baby for 20 lakh, Rajat Patidar for 20 lakh, Mohammed Azharuddeen for 20 lakh, Suyash Prabhudesai for 20 lakh, KS Bharat for 20 lakh, Kyle Jamieson for 15 crores.
Conclusion:
With the Grand Auction to be held in 2022 , teams seemed in minor readiness to go for multiple bidding demands. Also the venue for IPL 2021 yet to be finalised, teams looked for a squad that can adapt to any given condition.
