We all have heard about Shahnaz Husain. She is a “Queen Of Herbs. But most of us did not know about her journey. Therefore, we are presenting you the inspirational and success story of Shahnaz Husain, Founder, Female entrepreneur, and managing director of The Shahnaz Husain Group in India. It is an inspiring journey of an entrepreneur who works hard and overcomes all the tragedies that come in her way to success. About Shahnaz Husain

On 5th November 1944, Shahnaz Husain was born in Samarkand. She was born in a conservative Muslim household. She is the daughter of Sayeeda Begum and Justice Nasir Ullah Beg, a former Chief Justice of Ahmedabad High Court. Her grandfather, Justice Samiullah Beg, was a politician. She has done her education at St. Mary’s, Allahabad. When she was 14, she got married to Nasir Husain; they became parents of two children. She learned about Ayurveda in Iran, while Nasir Hussain was posted in Tehran. She did not stop here, and further did training in cosmetic therapy and cosmetology. When she came back to India, she decided to start a Women’s world in New Delhi. Now, her daughter Nelofar is carrying her legacy forward. Nelofar is also the author of the biography of Shahnaz Husain’s “Flame.”

Her Personal Life

Shahnaz got married when she was 15, but her passion for learning did let her stop. She became a mother at a very early age of 16. She lost her husband in 1999; her husband died because of cardiac arrest, but it’s not the end of tragedy in her life. In 2008 her son Sameer Husain committed suicide.

Beginning Of Her Journey.

At the time of training, she came across several instances where skin damage happened because of chemical treatments. Even she observed chemical treatment side effects so closely. Shahnaz Hussain started studying herbal products that could be used as a safer alternative to chemical treatments. While studying, she realized that her Ayurveda could be an ideal solution. Due to a lack of awareness in India, women use chemicals for makeup and hairstyling that will harm their hair and skin.

In 1971, she returned to India and started her first herbal salon in her home. She is known as a pioneer of organic beauty care and follows her ‘care and cure’ principle. Therefore, launched herbal beauty care in India.

She rejected the concept of cosmetic treatments and started her own. After years of hard work, she has revolutionized the idea of face beauty products in India. Her innovation for herbal products makes her a queen of herbs. Shahnaz Hussain evolved over 400 solutions for treating scalp and skin disorders, overall beauty care, fitness, and health.

Since she has studied Ayurveda, it restores her faith in nature. Indian herbal healing system helped her get the perfect solutions to protective, preventive, and even corrective cosmetic-care.

Beginning Of The Shahnaz Husain Group

As we have seen how much she has faith in Ayurveda, Shahnaz Hussain started her first herbal clinic in 1971. Therefore her concept of Herbal Care and Cured worked and led to the formation of The Shahnaz Husain Group. For solving skin and hair related issues, she created therapeutic products. They have more than 400 franchise ventures worldwide that cover over 138 “without animal testing” countries. Their first franchise clinic was started in Calcutta in 1979, and after its success, they managed to start 80+ franchises in India within a year. They made their international debut in London in 1982. This Group also runs its premium Spa treatment and Ayurveda Salon center in New Delhi; it gives a line of exclusive skin, hair, and body treatments.

This Group owns more than 400 franchise clinics, spas, schools, shops, and Ayurvedic formulations for skin, hair, body, and health care, and approximately has 1,50,000 stores in 138 countries. 

Shahnaz Hussain is known as one of the trusted brands in the Indian herbal cosmetics industry. She was also invited to Harvard Business School to share her inspirational story. She not only let students understand how to Create Markets project but also told her business’s growth, origins, and development. She described how her innovative approach regarding beauty products made her global success.

  • In 1989, she got the “Bharat Nirman award.”
  • In 1995, she was awarded the “Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award for advancing Herbal Care and Ayurveda.”
  • In 1996, She was awarded Success Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Woman Entrepreneur” award. Even at the Cannes Film Festival, she had walked the red carpet.
  • In 2006, Shahnaz won the “Woman of the Year Udyog Ratan Award.”
  • In 2006, GOI awarded her with Padam Shri to enrich the fields of trade and industry. Harvard Business School welcomed her to speak about her success story of how she built an international brand without a commercial ad. It also became a Harvard Case Study, which is incorporated in its curriculum.
  • Shahnaz Husain, often recognized as the “Queen of Beauty Care,” has won internationally to settle the herbal beauty care movement. She has led the Indian herbal heritage of Ayurveda globally.
  • She is frequently invited to prestigious business schools abroad. She has addressed students of the London School of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Oxford. She also symbolized India at President Barack Obama’s Summit for entrepreneurs.
  • She presented the concept of herbal cosmetics in India. The Shahnaz Husain Group is best recognized for its herbal cosmetics, hair products, facial kit, beauty products, mehndi, particularly skincare products ‘without animal testing.
