In our educational system, competition is crucial to bringing forth a student’s best attributes. It helps pupils develop their skill sets and inventiveness. It also develops their intelligence, enhances their sense of value, and motivates them to advance.  Competitive exams are designed and organized to evaluate a variety of traits, including capacity, mental stability, technical competence, and physical fitness. These tests may be given verbally, electronically, on paper, or in a setting where the test-taker is required to have a particular set of skills. Every year, India has thousands of exams, the bulk of which are simple to pass and just a small fraction of which are perceived to be extremely challenging. Here are the top 10 toughest exams in India.

Top 10 Toughest Exams in India

1. IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)

JEE Main and JEE Advanced are the two separate tests that make up this examination. The JEE Mains, the first level of the exam, includes the NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and IIEST, Shibpur, for its dual degree program. The JEE Advanced exam is the test’s second level. Only those who have been selected for JEE Mains may take this exam. At an average of only 30 entrants out of a group of 100, it is definitely one of the toughest exams in India.

2. UPSC- Civil Services

The most esteemed exam in India, the UPSC Civil Services Exams, are used to choose candidates for senior administrative positions in the Indian government. IAS, IPS, and IFS are just a few of the organizations that are covered by the test. The three-tier exam comprises of the Preliminary Exam, the Main Exam, and the Interview or personality test; the exam calls for an exceptionally high level of seriousness, devotion, and hard work. It is one of the toughest exams in India because of the large UPSC syllabus that covers a variety of subjects.

3. Chartered Accountant (CA)

The multi-tier exams for the CA course are conducted by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), and they follow a strict schedule. The exam demands a lot of work, but passing it ensures a solid wage and a great career. The exam is broken down into three phases: the Common Proficiency Test (CPT), the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC), and the CA Final Examination.

4. NDA (National Defence Academy)

The NDA is the Joint Services College of the Indian Armed Forces where Army, Navy, and Air Force cadets train together. This exam is required for all grads who want to join the military. The NDA exam happens twice a year, in April and September. The UPSC conducts the examination.

5. UGC-NET

The UGC-NET exam is only open to postgraduate students, significantly reducing the number of applicants and making it very challenging to pass. Candidates for assistant professors in college and high school as well as junior fellowships for research (JRF) are subjected to the test. The National Eligibility Test (NET) is required for candidates to be eligible for lucrative employment in public sector undertakings (PSUs), according to a 2013 statement from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

6. NEET UG

In India, the NEET exam is mandatory for admission to medical school. For the MBBS, BDS, and other programs, top medical schools select their students using an annual premedical test provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the exception of AIIMS. Medical students who passed their 12th-grade exams are eligible to take the exam. The extensive syllabus for the exam makes it difficult, and students who wish to pass must begin studying during their 12th-grade year.

7. AIIMS (PG) Entrance Exam

For the MD/MS post-graduate programs, a gateway exam called the AIIMS Entrance Exam is offered twice a year. Candidates are chosen over the course of two sessions. Each session has about 124 seats, with about 25% reserved for AIIMS (UG) candidates and 50% for restricted categories. Due to this restriction, it is not just one of the hardest exams, but only the deserving can pass it.

8. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

The GATE exam offers an easier route for candidates to enroll in postgraduate engineering studies at IITs. Indian Institute of Science is responsible for administering the test. Its syllabus contains the concepts covered during the four years of a bachelor’s degree. It is set up as an online test and analyzes participants on two criteria: general aptitude and technical and engineering math expertise.

9. Common-Law Admission Test (CLAT)

CLAT is an entrance test for LLB and LLM programs. While some law schools use the LSAT as part of their admissions process, others use the CLAT scores. The test can be taken only once a year and is offline. The eligibility requirements for entrance to a bachelor’s program call for candidates to have passed their 12th-grade exams, whereas a bachelor’s degree is a requirement for a master’s program. It is one of the most difficult tests in India because it requires a broad understanding of many disciplines.

10. IES (Indian Engineering Services)

The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) administers the Indian Engineering Services Exam, a three-stage integrated competitive examination, in India. The Indian government’s IES are focused on technical and managerial civil services. The three parts of the IES selection procedure are an interview, an objective technical paper, a technical paper, and a general aptitude test. Given the high salaries available, this is one of among the most coveted tests to pass.

Conclusion

This concludes our list of top 10 toughest exams in India. Exams play a big role in our education. Exams are crucial for teaching fundamental skills like self-control, time management, hard effort, and patience in addition to testing a student’s knowledge. Make sure you are dedicated to clearing the exam if you are studying for one of these.
