There are lots of nations in the globe, and they are all different sizes. Some countries are little, while others are enormous. Russia, Canada, China, the US, Brazil, Australia, India, Argentina, Kazakhstan, and Algeria are the ten largest nations in the world, in order of total area. These nations account for more than 55% of the land on Earth, which is a sizeable percentage of the planet’s surface. Read on to know more about the top 10 largest countries in the world in 2026.

Top 10 Largest Countries in the World

1. Russia (17,098,242km²)

Russia, which accounts for nearly 11% of the total territory of the planet, has consistently ranked #1 among the largest countries in the world. Russia is so large that it stretches from all of Asia’s northern part to northeastern Europe. Over 60% of Russia cannot be inhabited because of permafrost. Some individuals hunt giant tusks in the nation as a result of some of it melting. Russia has a population of little about 145 million, making it a country with a small population.

2. Canada (9,984,670km²)

Canada has a small population compared to its size, but it is heavily covered with snow and ice. The country is the location of Niagara Falls, has vast woods home to bears, wolves, and mountain lions, bison in its countryside, and has the world’s longest coastline made up of more than 52 thousand islands. There are up to 2 million lakes in Canada, including Lake Superior, Lake Huron, and Great Bear Lake.

3. USA (9,833,517km²)

A long history of war, wealth, and a significant influence on global affairs could all be found in this nation of the liberty and homeland of the brave. The United States is home to several natural and man-made wonders, including the Grand Canyon, the Rockies, the Great Lakes, Yellowstone National Park, Death Valley, and strong rivers. There is lots of room for exploration in the United States, which has a projected population of slightly under 340 million.

4. China (9,596,960km²)

In Asia, China is by far the biggest nation. By overall area, it is the fourth biggest nation in the world, and by people, it is the second biggest. The communist country has a history dating back to the 13th century BC, is well-known for its Great Wall, Giant Pandas, Zhangjiajie Mountains, and the Forbidden City, just to name a few of its charming locations. Over 1.425 billion people are thought to live in China.

5. Brazil (8,515,770km²)

According to numerous accounts, Brazil has won a total of five FIFA World Cup championships, which puts them in first place overall.

6. Australia (7,741,220km²)

Australia is so large that it is considered to be its own continent. Australia is known for many things, including its shrimp on the barbie, unusual and dangerous animals, the Outback, Ayers Rock in Queensland, and a whole lot more, not to mention the Great Barrier Reef. There are little fewer than 26.5 million people living in the nation. At least 60,000 years have passed since the first Aboriginal Australians arrived in what is now Australia.

7. India (3,287,263km²)

India, which is bordered by Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, China, Bhutan, and Pakistan, ranks seventh among the largest countries in the world by land mass. India has a southern border of 2,933 km (1,822 miles) and a northern border of 3,214 km (1,997 miles). There is a shoreline of 7,516.6 km (4,671 miles) and a land boundary of 15,200 km (9,445 miles). 8. Argentina (2,780,400km²)

Argentina, the eighth-largest country in the world, is well-known in South America for having produced two of the best footballers that mankind has ever seen. A vibrant nation, Argentina has a population of about 45.75 million people, 4,989 km of coastline, and stunning landscapes. In addition to football, Argentina is renowned for its coastlines, the Andes Mountains, the Telampaya National Park, and its breathtaking waterfalls.

9. Kazakhstan (2,724,900km²)

Kazakhstan ranks as one of the less densely inhabited countries, with a probable population of little under 19.6 million. Over the western bank of the Ural River, a vast nation in Central Asia pours into Europe. The immense Kazakh Steppe, the biggest landlocked nation in the world and home to several mountains, canyons, and Bronze Age petroglyphs, is a well-known region of the globe. It also serves as the launch pad for space missions and the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

10. Algeria (2,381,740km²)

Conclusion

Those are the top 10 largest countries in the world. It’s interesting to note that many of the biggest countries in the planet are found in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to the location, climate, and history of the Northern Hemisphere, nations there tend to be larger.
