The most notable commercial cricket tournament in the world is the Indian Premier League, which takes place every year. The IPL features athletes from all across the world. Indian Premier League players are known for their rapid batting and brief playing innings. But occasionally, athletes don’t budge from the pitch and forge potent alliances. The majority of players only want to score big hits and win the match, but a strong partnership can change the course of the game. There have also been cases where batters simply wouldn’t leave the field leading to staggering partnerships. On that note, we bring you the top 10 highest partnerships in IPL.

1. Virat Kohli & AB de Villiers (229)

In Bangalore, a little less than a year after their assault on the Mumbai Indians, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were at their best. This time, the opposition is the Gujarat Lions. Following Chris Gayle’s dismissal, AB de Villiers entered the game and immediately began to strike. This time, too, Kohli was keeping pace with him. In a record amount of time, both players finished their century. The final score was 248/3. In the last over, Kohli was dismissed for 109 from 55 balls, while AB de Villiers continued to bat unbeaten on 129 from 52 balls. It’s one of the highest partnerships in IPL. 

2. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers (215)

At the Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore drew the toss and decided to bat first in an IPL game in 2015. They had a horrible start when Chris Gayle was injured right away. On the other side, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers made an excellent partnership. The Mumbai Indians’ mediocre bowling line had no notion what de Villiers was made of. In just 59 deliveries, the South African scored 133 runs, crushing the bowling attack. Kohli scored 82 runs from 50 deliveries. It’s the second-highest partnerships in IPL.

3. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul (210)

Rahul and de Kock, the opening pair for Lucknow, not only shattered the previous record for opening partnerships; they did it by a margin of 25 runs. With 6 overs remaining in the innings, de Kock and Rahul were both at 60 runs. But they scored an incredible 99 runs in the final 30 balls.

4. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh (206)

In 2011, Adam Gilchrist, the captain of Kings XI Punjab, and Shaun Marsh, another Australian, launched a stunning assault on Dharamshala. In the fourth over, the pair joined forces as a form of retaliation against the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling attack. The bowlers didn’t help their own cause by delivering a startling 27 extras. Following Gilchrist’s dismissal for 106 runs off 55 balls, Marsh continued to be unbroken on 79 runs off 49 balls.

5. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli (204)

Chris Gayle started carefully after being handed the chance to play first in a crucial IPL 2012 game. Early on, he lost his debut partner Tilakaratne Dilshan. The captain, Virat Kohli, later joined him. The Jamaican subsequently defeated the Delhi Daredevils’ assault. Gayle finished with a 128 not out from 62 balls score. Gayle had to take second place, so Kohli finished with an average of 73 off 53.

6. David Warner and Naman Ojha (189)

In 2012, Indian wicketkeeper Naman Ojha and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner shared a stunning unbeaten 189-run partnership. The Delhi Daredevils, who were needing a huge 188 runs to win, got off to a poor start when skipper Virender Sehwag was removed early. Nevertheless, once Warner started to let go, there was no going back. Ojha’s strong innings provided him with strong support.

7. Jonny Bairstow and David Warner (185 Runs)

Jonny Bairstow and David Warner of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team’s opening pair, scored 185 runs off 98 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 31, 2019, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Bairstow hammered a stunning 114 Runs in only 56 balls with 12 boundaries and 7 sixes. While David Warner also scored a very good stroke of 70 runs in just 42 balls.

8. Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn (184 Runs)

Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir scored an incredible opening partnership of unbroken 184* runs off just 89 balls on April 7, 2017. They pounded Gujarat bowlers in the Rajkot stadium with fours and sixes, chasing the focus on in just 14.5 overs. With six fours and eight sixes off of just 41 balls, Lynn scored an unbeaten 93* runs, and Gambhir added a brilliant unbeaten 76* in just 48 balls.

9. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal (183 Runs)

At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on September 27, 2020, Kings XI Punjab’s KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal put on an amazing opening stand against Rajasthan Royals, scoring 183 runs off just 99 balls. This Karnataka combo accompanied each other exceptionally well and blasted bowlers as long as they lasted in the middle of the field. With 106 runs off of 50 balls with 10 boundaries and 7 over boundaries, Mayank had a spectacular performance.

10. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway (182 Runs)

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put created a massive 182-run opening stand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune on May 1, 2022 for the IPL. It enabled Chennai to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 Runs and post a fantastic total of 202/2 in 20 overs. Ruturaj scored an amazing 99 runs off just 57 balls. He unfortunately fell short of scoring a century for one run. Devon Conway, who started the game, scored an outstanding unbeaten 85 runs in only 55 balls.
