Rainy days can be a bummer when you have outdoor plans. However, don’t let the weather get you down! There are plenty of indoor activities and crafts that can be just as enjoyable, if not more so, than outdoor play. From engaging projects to arts and crafts, you can turn a rainy day into a fun and memorable experience. So, if the weather doesn’t cooperate with your plans, don’t fret. Instead, embrace the opportunity to try something new and exciting indoors. Here are 8 engaging DIY craft projects for a rainy day.

Engaging DIY Craft Projects for a Rainy Day

1. Making paper boats

There is a specific place for paper boats, especially in the rainy season. Children participate in tactile play as they fold and shape these boats, which improves their eye-hand integration and fine motor skills. You can use old notebook pages, exercise copies, or any other paper you have lying around your house to construct paper boats. Additionally, a candy wrapper can be used as the flag, and a lollipop stick for the pole. To give those boats a more appealing appearance, use craft papers in various colors. It can stimulate inventive play and be enjoyable. It’s one of the most engaging DIY craft projects for a rainy day.

2. Hand Printed Umbrellas

Rainy days can be gloomy, but colorful umbrellas can lift your spirits! With just a few simple steps, you can create your own unique umbrellas that will bring joy to any rainy day. Encourage your child’s creativity by making handprints with paint on a piece of paper and use them to create your own asymmetrical umbrellas. Don’t forget to highlight the folds with a marker, add a handle, and some raindrops to complete the look! With these umbrellas, you’ll be ready to face any rainy day with a smile!

3. Bug Clothespin Magnets

Transform a dreary, rainy day into an exciting art project for your children by creating adorable bug-themed clothespins to adorn your fridge! Not only is this a fun activity for your kids, but it’s also a great way to showcase their artwork. With simple clothespins as the base, your children can let their creativity shine by adding self-adhesive gems, mini glue dots, chenille stems, pom-poms, Sharpies, and magnets. Just be sure to lend a helping hand with the hot glue!

4. Paper Collage Art

Pick up some sheets of colorful paper and roughly shred the pages into little pieces. You may also cut out umbrella sheets using colorful cupcake liners. Next, use white paper to create an outline or depictions of rain, such as clouds, rainbows, flowers, raindrops, small children strolling under an umbrella, etc., and have your children adhere the small pieces to the picture. Not only is paper collage art intriguing and different, but it also holds youngsters’ attention for hours on end.

5. Turn Greetings card into artwork

If you’re looking for a fun and productive hobby that can help you relax and reduce stress, greeting card-making is an excellent choice. Not only is it enjoyable, but the noises, colors, and sensations of raindrops, foliage, and cloud cover can also serve as a source of creative inspiration, particularly during the rainy season. With just a few simple steps, you can turn your greeting cards into works of art by printing them onto high-quality photo-grade cardstock, cutting and folding them, and rounding the corners. Alternatively, you can showcase your own paintings by creating personalized greeting cards.

6. Polymer clay pots

We feel inspired to pick up some clay and start creating when we see pots! Vinyl, or polymer clay, is the same stuff we use to bring water into our houses and give IV medications to ailing patients. The substance itself has the optimal capacity to contain water without leaking. Make a planter out of clay pots, or just have fun decorating a plain pot you already own with some squiggles. If you enjoy decorating, try using acrylic paint to change a terracotta pot! After the rain stops, you may either repurpose the plant pot or find a new home for your plant.

7. Repurpose your ceramic dishes

Get some ceramic paints and let your imagination go wild, whether you’re wanting to upcycle something or you just have a few extra décor dishes lying around. Wash the dishes, mark the parts you want to paint with tape, and cover the remaining sections with masking tape. Then add color by following the directions on the paint tin. You can apply a scalloped look, oil paint, or acrylics. You can lightly mist the surface with a gloss clear to provide extra shine.Try experimenting with colors and patterns to create something truly original!

8. Upscale your old jeans

Use your imagination to upcycle an old jacket or pair of trousers. Plan out your pattern with a graphite pencil before grabbing the fabric paints, or use cardboard and scissors to make your own stencil. For an alternative patchwork look, you could also take a bunch of different colored bandanas and sew or use fabric adhesive to connect them to your pants.

Conclusion

So, those were the 8 engaging DIY craft projects for a rainy day. These events are entertaining and a good use of time, whether or not you have children. Children will pick up a new skill and remain indoors till the sun comes up.
